Baby's got brand new hat!

It's the Toasty Topper from Knitty.com. I knit it in a day. It's a great pattern--only one end to sew in! I used the yarn it called for, though in Erica Blue (though I don't think that's what they called it on the label). I like it because it keeps his neck warm, it stays on, and it doesn't fall over his eyes.

Wow! its adorable! What happens at the neck there -- that looks like a cool tie.

And what a great model you have!

It's two ribbed straps that are attached to the hat--like a scarf. The Knitty pictures shows it better.

It's amazing the model stayed still!

That is both practical and adorable, but I think your model could make anything look good.

Tell me about the size.. The pattern only gives one size. Could it really fit all those ages?

I don't know, Patti. I knit to gauge (for a change)and it's pretty dense fabric. I guess I'll find out next year! The one thing I'd change if I were to do it again would be to add an extra row or two on the section between the top and the scarf part--that's where I think it'll get a bit too small. I think you could just go up a needle size for a slightly bigger fit, too.

If you're going to make this, pay attention to the fact that you knit this double stranded (it's part of the way it's made), so you'll need to choose yarn and swatch accordingly. I wasn't paying attention to that, but since I used the yarn it called for, it worked out. I could have easily screwed it up.
