you guessed it ...

... I made more jewelry! This is a going away gift for a researcher (who has been gone almost a month now, but who's counting). She had asked for my help suggesting jewelry for a bridesmaid dress she has to wear in the fall -- it's brown, and I thought these lovely purple-ish pearls would go nicely. The old buckle/clasp combo were a windfall in my junk box. Gotta hope she hasn't already bought something....

The other necklace is an idea I got from In Style magazine, of all things -- velvet ribbon and old buttons. Easy peasy! I wore it today with an erica-blue jersey wrap dress, but got no comments. Can you believe it?

What do you think?

Wow, the bracelet and necklace are just gorgeous! I love them.

And you know, I think there are just no-comment days. Because you certainly should have gotten complements on that.

I bought a silver and pearl necklace yesterday in Annapolis, but I want to post it because it's a really simple idea that I think you could use as inspiration. And I was going to finish a silver necklace last night but realized I have no crimps. Grrrrr.....

Those are stunning! How can you bear to give them away? Even if your former researcher has bought something else, she will love yours more.

I'm going to go thru my buttons today......

I echo your mom's question about how you could give that set away.

I wish I were at home going through buttons....

no crimps? that's criminal. I have about 150 all over my floor. There was a little spilling incident last night. D'oh!

I was feeling so guilty about not acknowledging her departure that I actually am glad it came out so good and fancy. I can make more -- many, many more -- and even better ones.

So mom, why don't you share this idea you have about all of us doing a show???

That definately sounds like an idea that needs to be shared! Do tell!!!

In order to rectify my cardinal sin of not having any silver crimps (I now have 100, just so you know), I went to the new bead store in Bethesda last night--The Beaded Giraffe. I think this place has potential. The owner is really nice and wants to make the BG the neighborhood bead shop (given that it's the ONLY bead shop in Bethesda, that shouldn't be that hard). It's a really pretty, relaxing space where there are tables set up so you can work on your projects there--she'll give you wire & has the tools to use. I told her that this is what we'd be talking about for a long time--a craft place where you could work on your stuff right there so when you ran out of something, it'd be right there. She's got great beads, lots of pretty stones, and assured me that she's getting more in all the time. Great clasps, too. She's also open to after-hours events, like girls' nights where she'll lock the door at 7 and you can bring your wine & cheese and bead away, and projects with Girl Scouts and the like. So I'm very excited about this place and if we ever want to do a Craftactular weekend in DC, we should remember this place.

That bead store sounds like it's right up our alley.

I went to a "high end" art show this weekend(one of two held every year in Buff.) Many of the same artists were in both shows. The prices were really high-I didn't see people buying much. As I walked thru both both shows I couldn't help but think of what an awsome booth we could do together. Our stuff is so very cool and unlike anything I have seen at a show.(Aren't people ready for something different?) We would have to find the right venue for us, one that allowed us to do many different things in one booth.

The Crafty Bastards Show sounded like it might be what we are looking for. Although I realize we can't be ready for a show this year, it would be fun to start checking out things for next year.

Maybe even a website where we sold our stuff.

Anyone interested in making stuff to sell? I know how busy you are so maybe it's just me looking for an excuse to make more things since I can't display everything I want to make in this small house.

I will be anxious to hear what you think.

Here are the websites of the two shows here. They are juried shows and the entrance fee is $$$$. I'm not sure we do fine art, although we think our art is FINE, so these two shows may not be for us.

I was expecting the Allentown show to be in PA!

I think it's a fabulous idea and I think Crafty Bastards would be a great forum, probably the others, too. We'll have to keep this in mind because CB filled up early this year, in the spring already. I was also told it was $$$ to get in, but I don't know what that translates to. I've been thinking of doing this for awhile--a friend of Rob's organizes a small show around Christmas time. K, you've been to that one, the one in VA. I don't think she's doing it this year, though.

If we do this, we should probably think more seriously about changing our blog name. Rob might volunteer to make a logo for us.

I'm completely into the idea of trying out a show. Let's just pick one and plan! I think we need to plan a girls weekend -- I've got lots of time in September. Wanna come to Atlanta or where should we go??

We should get together to talk this out.. I'll go anywhere and you're always welcome here.

Maybe DC to check out Crafty Bastards 10/1?

Oooh, a reconnaissance mission! You are more than welcome to stay with me, regardless of which house we're in.

i don't know where to start... very nice necklaces, k. there are some girls at work that make jewelry and seeing all the creations you girls make makes me more and more interested in making jewelry myself. i've been resisting for a while since i have my hand in too many crafty things arleady. we will see...

the show idea sounds good to me. i don't know anything about doing things like that but i'm into it. let me know time and place and we will see if it works.

i'm also into a crafty girls weekend depending on airfare (i am a teacher's wife you know). i'll be there. i would suggest boston but we don't have much room with a crazy beagle in the house.

back to the girls at work that make jewelry... they also do shows and are in the process of making websites. so i'll rack there brains for ideas.

also i found a super cute scrapbooking store near me today. it's calld the crop shop. they have a website to buy as as well. i'm planning on taking a class there soon. they don't have tables where you can scrap all day and use supplies but it was a good find.
