I Swear...

I swear I made this before I looked at the pictures of the other ribbon necklaces. I will admit that I was inspired by another necklace I saw on the web which was intriquingly referred to as 'the whip'. The problem is, it's very hard to find beads that the ribbon will fit thru so I ended up hand sewing most of the beads to the ribbon. Tedious, at best! Is it very dorky looking?

So, are we all good with the 14th as a final finish date for our 1st Crafters Challenge?

My first thought when I saw the picture was "wow, that's really elegant", which I think automatically contraindicates dorky. I just can't tell if it's grey or blue?

Black organza ribbon, black and grey beads.

it IS very elegant! but it needs more more more I think more layers, more beads, more bedingles. THAT will make it will really something!

So, yes, that would be me screwing up the demographics of magazine buying--I went to Barnes and Nobles at lunch today and bought Wired and Belle Armoire. Have you guys seen BA? I think it's by the same company as Legacy, but this one is Art to Wear. Very, very cool!!!

I really like Belle Armoire conceptually, but sometimes things in there are really, really weird!

I'm good with the 14th as our due date -- everyone else?

check out this website: www.craftster.org. There is some crazy stuff in there, including a Virgin of Guadalupe done in pipe cleaners. Is this where you got the idea for a challenge, Patti?

14th works for me--and just last night I figured out what I'm going to do! Now lets see if I can make it work...

and yep, there's some weird stuff in BA--but this issue has some great found objects jewelry and some amazing felting. I've discovered that I need to build up my found objects inventory--I'm a bit lacking in that category.

I love a good hunt for found objects! My biggest problem is then putting them to use.

My inspiration for the challenge was a walk along the shores of Lake Erie.

Will add more bling to my ribbon necklace. Should I worry about covering to much of the ribbon?

the 14th is good for me. i'm doing 2 different things with my drift wood but one you'll know it was me. so i guess i'll have to do one anonymous and the other will be a dead give away.

I think you need more ribbons too mom -- more ribbons and more beads on the ribbons. And perhaps some unexpected touches, like a relgious medal or two? ;)

I had an idea for my challenge, and then I started thinking about another idea, and now my two ideas are mishmashed in a horrible amalgam in my brain! My GOD! What will happen when I actually get out the glue?

Oooh! religious medals would be good! For the necklace, not the challenge. Well, maybe for the challenge, too, but I was responding to K's comment.

I'm rambling, aren't I?

After spending a few days in Wisconsin, I'm ready to start my challenge (I made sketches during meetings) and I'm going for challenge supplies after work today. Woo hoo!

Fiber Fest was not what it should or could have been. The setting for it was ideal. Beautiful barns and other outbuildings. The pasteurs and surrounding land is green and serene. Unfortuantely the wind was howling so I honestly think there was a chill factor. It was dark and very damp but the rain had stopped for a short while. There weren't many vendors or exhibitors and a lot of those who where there had packed up early and left.It would seem as those most of the others were about spinning and roving. No good yarn except for one place that was outrageously expensive. I was only there for about an hour, if that. All in all, it was very disappointing!
